Planet or Plastic is a printed textile collection that illustrates the effect plastic has on our ocean and its marine life. Growing up near the beach, I have formed a strong connection with the ocean. Seeing plastic amongst the sea life and beach combing for rubbish as opposed to shells, inspired this project to advocate for the ocean. The research-led collection aims to transform initial aesthetic attraction into realisation, through its use of colour, pattern, and confronting illustrations. Each piece communicates a different fact or figure and has been delicately hand painted to explore the detail, depth and abundance found in the ocean. Planet or Plastic hopes to stimulate conversation around plastic consumption, and prompt people to consider where their plastic ends up.
